This is a car that’s ahead of its time. The 2017 Ford GT already exists as a concept, and a model of it was unveiled in 2015 at the world-famous Detroit auto show. From its futuristic exterior to its extreme engine under the hood, this concept car has piqued the interests of drivers on the street as well as racing aficionados and industry insiders. If you’re excited to learn more about this ultramodern vehicle, enjoy reading about four cool features of the 2017 Ford GT supercar.

1. An Astonishing Exterior

It’s the car’s appearance that first causes onlookers to pause and appreciate this vehicle. With a sleek, elongated hood, cool styling on the doors, and a signature rear fascia, the Ford GT is unlike most cars already on the road and racetrack. Some reviewers note that its body and silhouette are similar to the legendary Le Mans racer prototype.

Its appearance reminds you of both a racecar and sports car, taking the aerodynamic features of each and combining them to create a beast of a hypercar. A wing in back adds a nice visual flair, and helps maintain stability at high speeds thanks to its ability to move up and down. When positioned correctly, the spoiler can create downforce. The doors move up and forward when opened.

2. A Mix of Lightweight Materials

The macro-trend in transportation toward lightweighting is on full display with the 2017 Ford GT. Aluminum is used to create the subframes while the monocoque is composed of carbon fiber. In a Car and Driver article, a top Ford engineer claimed this vehicle will have the top power-to-weight ratio of any car. Combine its weight with its aerodynamic design and you have a recipe for reaching very high speeds.

3. So Much Horsepower

To help make this car a true speed demon, the Ford GT comes equipped with a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine under the hood. Ford claims this engine will produce in excess of 600 horsepower, which sets this vehicle up to have tremendous torque. An automatic, seven-speed transmission gives the driver full access to the engine’s power. Counterbalancing the engine’s power are a set of carbon-ceramic brakes.

4. A Snappy Interior

There are only two seats inside this supercar. Clean and simple, the interior is all about creating a memorable driving experience. Gauges are presented in a digital format, and there’s a touch screen that brings Ford’s Sync 3 entertainment package to life with a color display. Buttons to start the car and change the transmission are located in a slim center console. There’s also a button inside the vehicle that lifts the front of the car to prevent it from scraping against sloped pavement.

Though it appears Ford has been working on this concept car for years, the carmaker is expected to take it from concept to production in record time. Even though this vehicle won’t officially roll off the line until late this year, the first prototype may make some more public appearances in the coming months.
