What is Sync 3?

Many 2016 Ford vehicles released in the latter part of the production year, and all 2017 vehicles, are coming with the SYNC 3 infotainment system installed. This new system has been designed to work with both Apple Car Play and Android Auto to ensure maximum compatibility. Ford has long promised to create a system that offers superior smartphone connectivity. SYNC 3 was developed in partnership with Blackberry instead of working with Microsoft, allowing Ford to keep this promise.

What Is SYNC 3?

In the past few years, the addition of some form of infotainment system has become commonplace in almost every vehicle sold in the United States. Typically, these systems combine numerous functions into one easy-to-read and use touch-screen interface. Ford’s SYNC 3 allows you to access your smartphone through voice commands to make and receive calls, listen to music stored in your smartphone or through the vehicle’s audio system, and access several built-in apps.

New Basic Functions

SYNC 3 is set to come with a host of Ford apps designed to enhance your driving experience and to help you keep your eyes on the road. One of these is the Siri Eyes-Free apps that have been separated from the Apple Car Play suite. This app lets you use the onboard navigation system through voice command. The system also includes the latest SYNC Connect phone app, which offers drivers several important functions you can control through your smartphone. These include:

• Unlock doors
• Remote Start
• Display current fuel level
• Locate parked vehicle

Options and Speed

One of the biggest complaints most consumers have regarding the current infotainment systems is the lack of options when it comes to interconnectivity. SYNC 3 offers users the option to use either Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, or Ford’s freshly redesigned AppLink System to access the many hands-free apps. This is considered the biggest improvement to the Ford SYNC infotainment system to date.

The voice recognition function has undergone significant improvement, allowing it to recognize natural human speech patterns readily. This function will significantly improve communicability and overall function by reducing the number of errors found in previous generations. The voice command structure is fast, and it offers immediate confirmation messages that let you know the system is doing exactly what you have requested.

The Ford SYNC 3 enhanced infotainment system has far more to offer than any previous system found in any Ford vehicle. Among the many outstanding features offered by SYNC 3, they include:

• Climate Control: In properly equipped vehicles, you can use voice command to set the interior temperature.

The combination of improved voice command software, new hard buttons, and significantly improved software from Blackberry are sure to make the all-new Ford SYNC 3 one of the hottest infotainment systems on the market. Look for it in many late 2016 models and all 2017 Ford vehicles.
