concert

Who doesn’t like a good concert? Whatever your musical tastes, the upcoming concert season in Charlotte, North Carolina, is sure to have something for you. Look over this list of six of the hottest tickets in town.

Selena Gomez

Selena Gomez got her start doing Disney television and films, but she’s an adult now and gaining respect as a musician. She has five albums under her belt, three with a backup band and two as a solo artist. Her music is modern pop, with influences from Taylor Swift and Beyoncé. She will be at the Time Warner Cable Arena on June 7 at 7:30 p.m.

Duran Duran

For those whose taste in pop comes from the ’80s and New Wave, English pop giants Duran Duran are on tour in support of “Paper Gods,” their latest release. This is their 14th album. The band, named after a character from Jane Fonda’s 1968 film “Barbarella,” combines electronic pop sounds with an art-school aesthetic. Duran Duran will be in Charlotte on April 16 at 7 p.m. at the PNC Music Pavilion.

Ellie Goulding

A rising British pop star with strong roots in the electronic music scene, Ellie Goulding will be at the Uptown Amphitheater at NC Music Factory at 6:45 p.m. on June 9. Ellie is an award-winning musician with three studio albums already, despite starting her career in 2009. Her music was on the soundtrack of the “Twilight” films, and she has toured with Katy Perry.

Journey and The Doobie Brothers

This duo gives listeners a blast from the past. Both bands hail from the ’70s, having packed stadiums and climbed the charts for more than four decades. Journey is better known for their harder-rocking sound, while the Doobie Brothers made a name for themselves with a more mellow groove. The two giants of rock will come together on June 4 at 7 p.m. at the PNC Music Pavilion.

Dixie Chicks

The Dixie Chicks remain one of the most recognizable names in pop country. They became internationally known in part due to political comments made by the band’s lead singer, but their strong sales are more connected to their adaptable sound and cross-genre appeal. Though several members have concentrated on solo albums or side projects of late, the band is on a reunion tour in 2016, and will be in the Charlotte area at the PNC Music Pavilion at 7 p.m. on August 13.

Rihanna

Bridging the worlds of pop and hip-hop, Rihanna has been a massive success since the release of her first album in 2005. Her career began when she was 16 and signed to representation, leading shortly to Jay-Z’s Def Jam records. With seven albums on the shelves and another on the way soon, her career shows no signs of slowing down. You can see her at the Time Warner Cable Arena on March 20 at 7:30 p.m.
