F-150

For Ford truck enthusiasts, the 2017 model-year has been an exciting one. Ford has revamped the powertrain for the entire F-150 line-up, and those updates are garnering attention in the industry.

Recently, Kelley Blue Book named the 2017 F-150 the ‘Best Buy’ in the Pickup Truck category – that’s the third consecutive year the F-150 has been the year’s best buy. Each year, KBB.com measures the year’s vehicles based on initial cost, resale value and cost to operate.

The 2017 F-150 performed well in nearly every category. First, America’s favorite pickup offers excellent value. Plus, thanks to drivetrain innovations, the F-150 is now more cost-effective to operate. But those are just a few points to be excited about. The 2017 F-150 line-up is better than ever before.

2017 Ford F-150: Powertrain Innovations

F-150 towing

In 2017, Ford has introduced one new powertrain option: the 3.5L EcoBoost V6. The 3.5L EcoBoost offers improved fuel economy, as well as better horsepower and torque. In fact, the 3.5L EcoBoost offers 50 more pound-feet of torque and 10 more horsepower over its predecessors.

The 3.5L EcoBoost joins an already impressive powertrain line-up. Options include a turbocharged 2.7L EcoBoost V6, a base model 3.5L V6 and a naturally aspirated 5.0L V8. Each engine delivers plenty of power. The 5.0L V8, for example, offers

best-in-class max payload at 3,270 pounds, while the 3.5L EcoBoost has a max towing capacity of 12,200 pounds. These engines were designed for work, but they make the Ford F-150 a pleasure to drive as well. The F-150 is confident on the road, with smooth acceleration for effortless passing.

Impressive Safety, Infotainment and Towing Technology

Named an IIHS Top Safety Pick in 2016, the 2017 F-150 arrives with a similar array of safety technology. Available Driver Assistance technologies include:

  • BLIS (Blind Spot Information System): Monitors blind spots at the rear of the vehicle and warns drivers of possible obstructions

  • Pro Trailer Backup Assistance: Pro Trailer Assist makes backing up a trailer a breeze, as an in-cabin knob controls the turning direction of the trailer.
  • 360-Degree Camera: Delivers a birds-eye view of the truck, offering complete range of view around the vehicle.
  • Adaptive Cruise Control: Monitors the road and adjusts outputs based on vehicles around the truck.
  • Forward-Collision Warning: Senses possible collisions and warns the driver.
  • Braking Assistance: If a collision is detected, the 2017 F-150 is capable of automatically applying brakes to limit impact.

Beyond safety technology, the 2017 F-150 also is available with a variety of infotainment technologies. The new SYNC 3 system is an option. This adds a large touchscreen into the center console display, and SYNC 3 includes advanced voice recognition and available navigation. Premium stereo options, SiriusXM and more are options as well.
