The longer you keep the next vehicle you buy, the more you lose or gain depending on the gas mileage. Fortunately, Ford has plenty of great options beyond their newer and rarer hybrid models. These are the five most common fuel-efficient Ford models. Whether you need an exciting sports car or reliable work truck, you can still save on fuel.

1. 2015 Ford Mustang

That’s right, the 50-year-old sports car icon is now fuel-efficient. Ford boldly reinvented the Mustang for 2015, retouching the exterior for a retro-modern look. It’s incredibly smooth to drive no matter the engine chosen, but out of all the choices, the clear winner for fuel cost is the newest: a 2.3L turbocharged four-cylinder with 310 horsepower. This smaller, smartly designed engine has a combined mileage of 32 mpg.

2. 2015 Ford Transit Connect

Maybe you’re seeking the virtual opposite of a road monster like the Mustang and need a reliable, spacious work van. Small and nimble, but with a stable long wheelbase option, the Transit Connect is customizable to your exact workplace demands. The EcoBoost 1.6L engine can reach up to 30 mpg, and many models start hardly above $20,000. All Transit Connects are front-wheel drive and can tow up to 2,000 pounds, even with the lighter EcoBoost engine.

3. 2015 Ford Fusion

If midsize four-door sedans are more your speed, the 2015 Ford Fusion comes in a variety of trims to suit different tastes. Customize your Fusion for style, comfort, safety, technology, or an even balance of anything you want. Fun to drive and full of value, the 2015 Fusion starts at only $22,500.

Your best bet is to get a six-speed manual transmission with the front-wheel-drive SE 1.6-liter. Between all engine options, except for custom hybrid models, 1.6L engines win out with 25 miles per gallon in the city and 37 on the highway.

4. 2015 Ford Focus

The 2015 Ford Focus is a stylish compact four-door sedan or five-door hatchback with many engine choices. The Focus’s balance of features and affordability makes it a best-seller all around the world. Regardless of the trim and powertrain, expect a comfortable, confident ride on the highway, with sport suspension and a combination of disc and drum brakes. The most basic trim is totally fine here, because the first choice of engine, a 1.0L three-cylinder, produces 42 mpg on the highway.

5. 2015 Ford Fiesta

This elite subcompact is entering its last iteration before significant changes for 2016, but the 2015 is inexpensive now and offers the best non-hybrid fuel economy on the market when it comes to subcompact cars. It’s got sleek European looks inside and out, and most importantly, an engine that saves you money. An SFE trim with five-speed manual transmission and a 1.0L three-cylinder engine puts out more horsepower and torque than the standard engine, with 31/43 city and highway mileage for a combined mpg of 36.
